merry plotters & the no-good very bad hole
hello, hole shenanigers! the time has come to fuckin' spelunk. i'm trace, your host for this adventure. :') let's get started, shall we?
█ WHAT IS THIS?remember that huge fuck-off dragon? we're gonna climb down his hole.
in the event write-up, the first bullet-point under "what's the damage?" talks about this very briefly, and i tossed up a plotting comment to get a preliminary head-count on who wanted to do some spelunking.
now the mods have provided us with a bitchin' write-up, which you'll find at the end of this post. this post is pretty much just a vaguely structured plotting experience, which i hope will be helpful in y'all figuring out what you want to do with your characters.█ TL;DR: WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED FROM THIS ADVENTURE?
- the biggest thing is the time span that adventurers are signing up for. this trip takes at minimum 4-5 days, and if you make it to the end, your character will be missing or occupied for at least a week.
- this expedition features ample opportunity for injury or death, most notably burn wounds and fall damage.
- this expedition also features some neat ass mental-emotional fuckery, including potential paranoia, feelings of loneliness and isolation, and the reliving/warping of past or future memories (any scene from canon) beyond the reach of such concepts of time and place.
- the conclusion of this event for those who do get to the final stage depends completely on other characters coming to the rescue.
- the soonest anyone could reach the hole if they left right away after the fight (on the 22nd) would be if you backdated to the 24th, and the soonest anyone reaching the end of the plot (step 5 below) would be available for regularly-scheduled threading on the 29th (7 days).
█ HOW DOES THE ADVENTURE GO?
- STEP 1: the forest. it's thicc. it's mildly dangerous. it's confusing. you're probably going to get lost in it. it takes like 1-2 days just to cover two miles of this bullshit, assuming you manage to keep going the right direction most of the time.
- STEP 2: the hole. the ground is basically still on fire. it's pretty fucked. not to mention the hole itself, which is massive and unfriendly and intimidatingly deep.
- STEP 3: some cave. some cave that definitely doesn't look like a dragon clawed through it. this is mostly just some sick scenery (glowing walls, shit damn) with a bonus splash of loneliness and maybe even paranoia. (note: this is the farthest your character can go while still able to turn back on their own/be back in less than a week!)
- STEP 4: some deeper, fuckier cave. the caves are suddenly rainbow. prepare to feel the most at-peace you could possibly feel short of literally dying. enjoy the company of a hallucinatory Person Of Importance in this not-at-all-trying time. speaking of time, you've lost all concept of it. (this is a potential end point for a lot of characters! folks feel the strong, definite urge to stop here for what ends up being like 2+ days.)
- STEP 5: is there even a cave anymore?? you've made it to the end. you don't know how long you've been walking or how far you've come. you don't know time or distance are even concepts that exist. you lose yourself in a moment in your past or (confirmed canon) future, watching it unfold as it was or will be and then again and again, warping slightly more each time.
- STEP 6, KIND OF: rescue? through steps 1-4, anyone can rescue anyone else from this mess, granted step 4's rescuers will have to resist the very compelling effects of the chamber. if your character makes it to step 5, only their own god can bring them back. this means that someone will NEED to tell the gods that people are missing.
(the full write-up can be found in this gdoc!)█ TIME TO PLOT THIS SHIT OUT.if your character wants to be involved in this plot, they have two main options: going down the hole and helping the rescue. more details will come on the rescue part asap but for now, comment if you want involved in some way. consider the following questions, whether or not you include them in your comment:
- is your character willing to work with a team, or are they adamant on going alone? what would happen if they encountered others? could they be reluctantly inclined to travel with someone? would they come to someone's rescue if that person gets lost or something? (basically just considering different sort of hooks that might give even loner-type characters the chance to thread with others!)
- how do they get to the hole in the first place? how do they carve their path through the wildlife? are they able to navigate well? if not, how do they keep going in the right direction? also, how the fuck do they know where the hole is in the first place? were they at the fight, are they following the Extra Fucky Nature, are they following some of the other adventurers?
- how do they get into the hole? it's a super challenging climb, not to mention dark as hell.
- how far are they going? are they stopping at step 4? step 5? what might they be experiencing?
- did they bring enough supplies for any of this?? literally a fucking week away from civilization, even if they don't really.... realize it's quite that long.
- did they tell anyone they were going? who? who the fuck is telling the gods they're even gone? someone's gotta.
- if your character isn't spelunking but wants involved, what are they doing? are they pulling people out of the early stages of cave-diving? are they tattling to the gods? are they welcoming the lost adventurers back with a feast? etc
that's it, guys! go fight win.
UPDATE: the log is up!

I think she might linger a bit in the peaceful cavern. She has experience navigating the wild, having lived her life in solitary on an island with forests and mountains. She'll get a little lost in the dark since she's seeing things as a mortal for the first time. But as long as she has a good team, she'll rely a lot on others to help make up her shortcomings.
If there is important flora in the hole, whether its fungus or moss, she'll likely recognize it.
lalli hotakainen!
if your character is also a quick motherfucker they might be carving adjacent paths through this mess, especially once they get into the cave where there's really only one main road through. he'd even be down to maybe kinda team up, if your character seems chill and competent.
if your character needs help, he can probably do that. he's not heartless. he'll turn back if he hears distress etc - though he won't stick around once the distress is over so you'd probably have to keep up with him.
if your character brought supplies and is actively openly using them (especially food), he'll definitely be interested in that. lalli packed pretty light. he's used to going hungry on long scouting trips but this is a whole different thing.
i'm also down for any other ideas y'all might have, if you want to thread with him! c: he's gonna get stuck in that last cavern at the end and honir's gonna have to bail him out.

Anyway, Thrawn is very definitely trying to find somebody that knows where the dragon hole is, to begin with. Also, he would actually have food. Also also he'll go the odd day without if he has to.

Okay not really BUT Nero is going to be too injured to go down the hole when most people will, but he's sure as shit gonna go and rescue anyone who needs it. Who here needs a shitposter to scold them and also sass them all the way back to try and keep their sanity intact in the meantime?

I'm down for rescuing multiple people (we can do handwavy stuff so it's not locked in that she only rescued one) and also teaming up with other rescuers for max efficiency. Tessa is a survivalist, knows how to move through tough terrain, and knows what supplies to bring. I'm willing to throw her into any location within the caves, so hit me up if you need a rescue!

After a good "the others did WHAT" scream session. But she'll come with some first-aid kits, no worries.

Fran's very much a curious explorer, so they won't be moving 'fast' if they can help it. Expecting a shorter trip, they've likely brought only light dried foods and a waterskin, perhaps using experience with nature to forage on the way to and from the hole. Otherwise, they'll be using their Alter Self ability to grow claws and make their limbs a bit more useful for climbing, hopefully making the trip down a little easier!
As for who knows: uhhh, anyone who asks! Likely Fran's housemates, or those they've had a short talk with after the event and consider friends. It's a fairly loosey goosey tie in if anyone needs it.
Extra deets:
Likely all the way. While they'll be easily distracted in early stages, Fran is fairly familiar with enchanting magic, and their constantly wandering mind usually ends up wanting to move on eventually, if only to experience what else this cave has in store! They don't have much more than a vague friend to think of deep in the tunnels, so the loneliness cave will be hitting hard.
Navigation: Literal centuries of traveling experience, and a strong understanding of nature and navigation within it! Their hybrid animal form might help them clear through the leading forest without much hassle, they're fairly used to overgrowth but definitely slower than normal!
Experience:
This'll be hit or miss, (bet you never miss huh?), but I know what's at the end will be a strong mindfuckery for Fran, at least. The loneliness cavern will hit hard, but mostly because of the stark contrast of the last two+ weeks of frequent contact. Since arriving Fran's being more social than ever, and now they're alone again. Intense, but not a huge delay? The peaceful cavern a much stronger one.

Maybe Fran could actually get him to do more prep than just hopping in without anything...

Of course, if you get extremely badly hurt, to the point where you'll die without something immediate to help, she can stabilize you. The hard part will be getting that message to her, since she's staying within city limits this time.

So!
He will want to tag along with people that look capable and like they've done this before. He's no stranger to teaming up with people he might not necessarily trust for the sake of increasing his own chances of survival etc. etc. If anyone has a group gathering up to do this, he'll probably tag along and follow them through the forest to the hole.
He will also not repeat the same mistake he did back home. Since he has no clue how long this will take, he WILL be bringing supplies. Prooobably not actually enough for a week, but at least a few days. Less if people decide to mooch off him.
If anyone seems to be losing their mind or wandering off into places they shouldn't, he'd also be willing to try to snap them out of it. Keeping together in dangerous places is important!
Terezi Pyrope
Their passage through the forest will be frustrating and slow, but through several minor injuries they will make it. At the hole, they'll give up on their blindfold again. They've got a fair amount of experience climbing around in dangerous terrain, so with a rope to help, not to mention claws, they will make their way very slowly down.
They will probably happily tell anyone who will listen that they're going because they never shut up about anything.
She is going to get stopped at Stage 4, and be unable to reach the final "Need a God to Save Me" stage. There is a very important person to her from her past that she's still got a metric shit-ton of unresolved feelings about as friends, and who she is really worried about (though she wouldn't admit just how worried she is to anyone but Dave) because their very existence was about to come to an end when she ended up here.
She'll be trapped in there with her for a while before someone rescues her... Obviously, Dave is TOTALLY invited to save her sorry ass, but I will take the rescue from literally anyone. It's cool. She'll claw and scream because she doesn't want to leave Vriska down in the hole like this, but she'll eventually be dragged out, especially if you convince her that it's not really Vriska down there.
Finn (SW | Frigg)
Because honestly, who wouldn't? Especially one who was top of his class and prepared for all sorts of nonsense. So he'll have the supplies and his weapons with him—mace & shield & Shield. And while...he doesn't want to go himself... He's not gonna let silly people go by themselves. So he's either going to rescue or follow a silly person.
He was at the fight and going back and forth taking injured people to safety so he's kinda familiar with the way to and from the hole. Would probably insist on him going down the hole first, either sliding down the side or maybe if someone brings it up there'll be a rope helping lead them down and up?
Figure whomever wants to drag him along can figure out how far they go?

so if you want to be a part of his #HoleSquad or just meet up in the cave somewhere, hit me up buds!
EDIT: editing in to say emil's on a "rescue mission" of his own so he's not trying to waste time and is likely very irritable and scared, just as a flavor of how he'll be during this whole adventure.

+ Rey is used to working alone, BUT can be swayed to join others since she's getting used to the whole "other people are okay and she can trust them" thing.
+ Scavenging ruins of forgotten ships means climbing and scaling wreckage, it's likely she'll try and keep on to the end and refuse to back down. The loneliness is gonna hit her hard, though.
+ She's... definitely going to need a rescue at the end.

Thrawn || Star Wars || Njord
STEP 1: Welp. Canon says he's good with forest? Even overgrown forest. He'll be looking to join up with other adventures even early on though. He's infamous for planning ahead, so it is very likely he'll have enough supplies. But he's not really a loner and not really a 'people person' more just plain aloof.
STEP 2: None too wild about the fire but not worried by it either especially since it looks like if you leave the ember bits alone they don't flare up. He also has climbing gear (ropes and anchors and shit) which he'll use mainly as a safety line and rock climb into the dragon hole.
STEP 3: The loneliness part is something he would definitely recognize as coming from outside of him since he's often alone and likes it that way. His greatest fear is actually being alone in the galaxy though, so mood swings will be a thing.
STEP 4: He will certainly stop for a while to watch the glowy lights. I figure he'd be here for about a day. He's the kind of person that will eventually go on, though.
STEP 5: This is the wacky part. When it gets so dark you can't see your hand in front of your face, he'll blindfold himself. And because he grew up in icy caves, he's the sort of weirdo that's learned how to move through them blindfolded.
Vergil | DMC
he's wrong, of course, as he is about so many things. but that's going to be his primary motivator for checking this shit out.
so with that in mind:
hardassadvice and coach them through it. he's learned what feelings are like, and so is a bit more inclined to help people!! the wonders that being fully human can do for you.aw man, the more I mumble about that the more I want it. ANYWAY
since he isn't the friendliest, I don't know that many would notice him missing. his son Nero would likely be the best contender, womp womp. it's up to you, son.
