On the morning of the 11th, players who chose to fly rune-decorated flags wake up with the strange feeling that there's something new inside of them. Not unlike feeling their god powers for the first time, there's a spark inside them that tells them they can do something special.

These new abilities start small, but each time a Wanderer uses their power they find it growing in strength. In fact, they almost feel compelled to use their power, not just to strengthen it, but for fun. They find themselves using this new power more and more, forgoing contact with their friends to use it, skipping meals, finding any time they can to indulge in it.

And each time they do, the rune stones themselves pulse with an ever increasing energy.

Wanderers that flew kites with the fyeer rune discover that they have the power of flight. At first they can only hover for a limited time, but each time they try, they're able to fly higher, further. With enough practice, they might find themselves flying like a bird over Asgard, though their power seems to fade the further they get from the city.

Wanderers that flew kites with the rendu rune discover they have the ability to talk to animals. It's only here and there at first - a bird's caw might sound rather pointedly like 'stay away from my nest!', or a meow might sound uncannily like a demand for food. The more Wanderers attempt to listen, the more they understand, and they realize the animals can understand them in return.

Wanderers that flew kites with the sil rune realize they have power over the weather. Like the other powers, it begins gradually. They might think it's too cold out and suddenly feel a beam of sunlight as the clouds part. They might lament that there's no wind to rustle through the leaves, only to feel a pleasant breeze after. They begin to realize they can summon rain in drizzles at first, and then in downpours. They can even summon brief strikes of lightning high in the sky if they wish, or turn raindrops to snow.

As the Wanderers use their rune powers with more and more fervor, the stones glow brighter and brighter, until at last they're nearly blinding to look at, and the air around them crackles with new energy that spreads outward and up. The children who found the runes grow fearful and hide them in the woods, but the damage is done. The storm summoned by the runes has begun.

With the storm now born, Wanderers no longer feel compelled to use their powers, but the locals hope they might use them to help stop the storm. Like the rune powers granted to kite flier, the storm starts small, with rain and occasional thunder, but it's clearly growing in strength. As days pass, strange weather events begin taking place. Rain that suddenly seems to flow upward, snowflakes falling in otherwise warm air, lightning springing from the ground. As each day passes, the storm grows more violent, sending the local wildlife into a frenzy as it tries to shelter from the sudden and unpredictable storm.

Though they no longer feel the runes' pull, rune-touched Wanderers still have powers that might aid in weathering the storm, which will only pass in full if the runes that brought it to life are found and destroyed.

Once the runes are destroyed, the powers granted by them to the Wanderers also disappears.





latent curses
THE LATENT CURSES.

Each month, we have 1-2 scheduled curses here in the Bulletin. These curses are latent - rather than deliberately being inflicted by the gods, they're a passive byproduct. Every so often a god has a particularly strong thought or feeling, and it creates a pocket of magic which takes life of its own and manifests into a small, short-term curse effect. These curses are not limited to specific areas or domains unless otherwise specified! We won't be making a log for these curses, but you're welcome to include them in your own open posts, etc.

Due to this month's events, the latent curses will occur later than usual in the month.

This month's latent curses are:

  • FRIGG, 25TH → After so much danger and turmoil in the last few months, Frigg believes a bit of human contact will do the Wanderers good. On the 25th, Wanderers will wake up craving touch, be it a gentle pat on the shoulder or a hug, or if they're already an affectionate person, they might become downright clingy! On this day, Wanderers will find themselves anxious if they are not near someone else, or in extreme cases not touching another person.

  • SKADI, 25TH → Frustrated that what was meant to be such a happy festival resulted in chaos and harm, Skadi can't stop thinking about how locals and Wanderers alike should learn to appreciate beauty where they find it. She doesn't mean to strike out, but her mood strikes out for her, and on the 25th Wanderers will wake up without the ability to see color until nightfall.
