MOD POST: JUNE EVENT PREVIEW

mod post: june event preview.

Hello, hello! Faith here with a quick peek into June's events for y'all. Our normal monthly event posts will go up on the 1st of every month, but since this is our first app round, we wanted to let you know what kind of plot you'll be dropping into before you apply!

This is because our game's very first event will be possibly our only mandatory metaplot for all characters entering the game in the June app round. While our events will ordinarily be optional, this one in particular is not solely because we are picking up the timeline of the game right from the very beginning of the story, with the first group of Wanderers appearing in Asgard. As you may have read on the selecting a god house page, this is not meant to be happening! So some interesting stuff will kick off right from the get-go.

As a quick reminder before we get into the details of that, though: reserves open on May 25 at 12:01AM PST and applications open on June 1 at 12:01AM PST! The Test Drive Meme is also open until the next one is posted in June, so please feel free to continue mingling in there!

june 8-9: the wonder of the wanderers.
On an otherwise unremarkable day, the Gods of Asgard are interrupted from their business of figuring out how to build and run a city with a sudden pinging sensation. It's like a thought that hits them out of nowhere with no real substance to it, no rhyme or reason, just a sudden awareness of something. Honir, as the God of Travel, is the one to realize it's not just a something but a somewhere, and off he goes to discover just what in Yggdrasil might be causing this strange new feeling.

When he returns to his family, it's with great confusion and a bubble of life magic in hand. The gods immediately leap to studying what this might mean, but are interrupted once again by the arrival of another - and then another. As more of these pings go off, the gods quickly realize what is happening: these are souls, children of the World Tree arriving in Yggdrasil against all logic and reason. And it's killing them.

All characters accepted in the June app round will die upon entry into the game.

It's described very vaguely on the premise page: your character randomly appears somewhere in Yggdrasil and for the briefest of moments, you will see vibrant colors and feel a static buzzing across your skin before a building pressure in your head goes pop! The last thing you might see is Honir reaching toward you as your eyes close, and when they open again, you will be in the welcome room described on the premise page. After that, you'll go through the process of selecting your god house, which will be detailed on the intro log when the game opens.

what this means for you:
death
  • Your character may not remember this death at all! It is so immediate that they might genuinely feel as though they blinked and reappeared in the welcome room, unaware of the fate that befell them.
  • Your character may remember a building headache or a second of sharp pain, maybe even the feeling of impending dread, before waking up in the welcome room.
  • Your character will not remember more than one or two seconds of what happened. It's a very rapid succession of events, as the raw magic in Yggdrasil immediately rejects the magic from your world.
  • These deaths are exempt from the death consequences.
resurrection
  • Your character wakes up in the welcome room, sans any of the magical/supernatural/superhuman abilities they may have had originally. Otherwise, they look and feel almost exactly the same.
  • For the next few days, they might feel... unwell, in slight and non life-threatening ways. You can play with the details of this, but symptoms should be along the lines of nausea, vertigo, or feeling vaguely like their center of balance has been shifted somewhat. Some might even occasionally feel like they are drowning before they realize they simply forgot to breathe.
  • Having any type of illness is entirely optional; you can also have your character feeling perfectly fine. All of these symptoms should clear up after two or three days at most.
opt-out
  • Because this is quite likely our only mandatory plot, the only opt-out options available are to have your character not remember any details of their arrival and/or to feel physically fine afterwards.
  • We also welcome you to have your character simply never find out about it. The gods will not be advertising the fact, although may answer if pressed with questions. We would consider this to be part of our game rule to "respect any player's request to be left out of such plots, even if not mentioning it would stretch in-character portrayal."
  • This is a game mechanics plot that will be resolved by the July app round, so the next batch of Wanderers don't have to go through this. We welcome the PCs to discuss how to accomplish this with the gods!

And that's it for the cursory details of the first metaplot; further details will be posted in June. We understand that this type of plot may not be for everyone, so we want you to make an informed decision about applying in this app round, as all characters accepted in June will go through this process. This should be the only time this plot will happen, and it may very well be our only mandatory plot in the course of the game. Please let us know if you have any questions/comments/concerns/dirty jokes in the comments below! We have been beside ourselves with how much fun the TDM has been this far, so pop on over there if you haven't gotten the chance yet. We'll see you soon for reserves!

I am so looking forward to playing with the implications of this! But just wondering, if a character has been near death before, would that be a good tip off.for them as to what happened?
