MOD POST: JULY EVENT DESCRIPTIONS

july event descriptions.

Howdy, everyone! Faith here with so many exciting things for July, starting with the results of our most recent player poll regarding event pacing for the game. Y'all gave me some really great feedback to work with! And the overwhelming consensus was that at least for the time being, it would be best to slow things down to one event per month and reassess where we are in the future. I am 100% on board for this and think this will be a good change of pace for all of us. Thank you, everyone! ♥

In the interest of this, July will largely be a play your way month! There will be a one day pop-up event to bring our new characters into the game, and there is currently a player plot running to explore the dragon hole left by the A Dangerous Deluge-ion event. These are both things that are entirely optional for your character to get involved with, but they will give you some good juicy fun things to do in July.

Our main event for July otherwise will be the official opening of the network! The log side of this will remain relatively small so that you can go wild with the network function itself instead, but there will still be some Plot Reasons and other things to interact with as well. The idea for this month is that you'll have options, but they should hopefully range from super lowkey to a healthy dose of Trauma depending on what you want to get involved with!

The player plot is in the works right now so if you're interested in that, please head on over to the plotting post. Participating in this plot does not have to be done in a group at the same time either; it can take place anywhere between June 23 and July 17. Other than that, let's move on to our July events! The intro log is already up here, the details are as follows.

july 5/6: third time's a charm.
July 6 is another sunny day, and the natives seem excitedly chattering amongst themselves as they walk towards the castle just before noon. If they can catch your attention, they'll let you know the gods have invited everyone for lunch on the castle grounds. A few new Wanderers have arrived in Asgard, and anyone that wants to come greet them is welcome. Free food and tea on a beautiful summer day. That's really all there is to it.

Except for maybe a select few of you.

content warning: gore, death

Some of you may have had a slightly more colorful evening than this pleasant sunny day has to offer. You see, what happened to you when you arrived seems to have happened again, but where you all appeared scattered around Yggdrasil, these new Wanderers appeared here, in Asgard. Last night. In fact, some of you may have even been there to see it.

This part of the plot is completely optional! Your character does not have to witness the following to be invited to the luncheon, and the gods will not be advertising what happens. As with the original metaplot, you have options for opting out of this plot. For anyone else that's into that weird stuff, here are your options (cw: gore, death):
for trauma in the stables
Late into the night, far after the sun has set and many have gone home for the night, anyone hanging around the eight-legged horses at Skjóta Oddr in Honir's district will be met with a slightly distressing sight that takes rapidly takes place over the next few seconds:
  1. A young woman appears out of thin air.
  2. Honir appears right in front of her, with his arms outstretched.
  3. The woman, for lack of a more elegant phrasing, explodes.
  4. A nearly blinding light can vaguely be seen through the cascade of gore for not even a fraction of a second, before Honir's hands reach out and create a translucent sphere around it. The most keen of eyes might be able to see past his hands to the bright golden flecks of light captured in the orb.
  5. Honir, who seems completely clean despite being right in the blast radius, finally notices that you're there with a horrified look of oh, no!
  6. He disappears, along with any bits of viscera there may have been. The stables are suddenly spotless, and so are you if anything touched you.
What the fuck?

for trauma in the library
While you may be studying or working on your own books, something that is not terribly discouraged even this late into the night, the same thing happens, only this time, it appears to be a young boy. Still: what the fuck?

There is no news or acknowledgement of anything that happened that night, and those of you that witnessed it may have some questions - but then everyone is invited for lunch the next day. It is overall rather peaceful; the gods make no special placement or overt proclamations of the new Wanderers' presence, leaving everyone to mingle amongst themselves freely, and some natives bustle around serving tea, sandwiches, and sweets as requested. The gods make themselves available as well, taking their respective places to sit and answer any, uh, questions or concerns some of you may have.

They're not advertising what happened. No need to cause a panic. It's just a nice, pleasant lunch on a nice, normal day. Totally.

This post can be used for plotting with our new characters, Tuuri and Number Five who will be dying in the stables and the library respectively, as well as with Noé, the lucky third that seems to have made it into Asgard more or less unscathed. The intro log is already up here to jump right into mingling!

july 17: from the ground up.
Long before the sun rises on July 17, if any of you are awake in those empty midnight hours, you may hear an odd, distant rumbling: a single, loud crunching of stone. Silence. And then another. Silence. And so on. Despite the strange weight of that sound, as though something is striking the earth itself - nothing around you shakes. No water ripples. There is nothing but that deep, thudding sound for what feels like minutes, but is really only just a few seconds.

And then after one final crunch, silence falls for the evening.

Nothing else happens until the morning. Wherever you are, whatever you may be doing, every single crystal of every Wanderer's bracelet lights up at once. It is one bright pulse of its ordinary color, not enough to hurt the eyes but sudden and in perfect unison. After that point, the network is considered active! To announce the fact, an NPC post will be the official opening of our network community; once you've seen that post go up, you are free to post to the network to your heart's content at any time.

When the first post goes up on July 17 (which will be linked to on the mod plurk and the discord channel), all of your characters will receive the same broadcast. Again, in perfect unison, your crystals begin to glow as a strangely translucent rounded-rectangle is projected above the left bracelet. Some of our more technologically advanced Wanderers may recognize it as some kind of hologram, but anyone that reaches out to touch it will find that it is oddly solid despite projecting from light. The "screen" is approximately 8 in x 6 in, and you can freely rotate it as long as the center remains over the crystal.

This is about all the fidgeting you might be able to accomplish before a video feed pops up, taking up the majority of the screen while leaving a small menu available along the the left column of the display. The bright smiling faces of Tyr and a surprise NPC guest will be broadcast to all Wanderers, explaining that they will now be able to communicate without even having to be next to each other anymore! At the advice of Finn and Peter Quill, and after being shown the basic concept of the communicators on the Benetar, the immortals have devised a way for you to contact each other directly based on what they were shown. This means you guys get a slightly more fancy futuristic network, courtesy of the Guardians of the Galaxy universe!

The NPC post will explain the basic instructions of how to use this new feature of the bracelets:
  • You activate the network function by tapping either of the crystals in your bracelet for 3 seconds.
    • The screen will appear over whichever one you touch; both crystals glow a little brighter than normal the entire time you access the network.
    • You can only activate your own bracelet, not anyone else's.
    • You can activate it by accident if you're leaning on the crystal, but the screen will just pop up and await instructions, so nothing can be posted unintentionally.
  • Once activated, the screen displays your available options for use in touch-screen fashion:
    • text: starts a text post. a keyboard appears at the bottom of the screen, and it otherwise appears very similarly to a DW post.
    • voice: starts an audio post. there is a button to start and stop the recording, as well as one to play it back and/or erase it before posting.
    • video: starts a video post. the screen projects your image as you record, and also allows you to play it back and/or erase it before posting.
    • access: opens the network feed. the screen displays recent posts in descending order, similar to any social media feed.
    • directory: a list of every Wanderer. given names are shown and attached to all content posted from your bracelet.
      • The list is spontaneously updated, meaning it can be used to track who is/isn't in Asgard.
    • UPDATE: alert: sends an emergency broadcast to all network users. this only allows for a video feed, since the idea is urgency. (This was added after the GOT cast discussed some emergency measures with the gods, and will be included in the initial launch of the network.)
All posting options have settings for who to send it to (direct, group, or all) and when to send it (post manually or broadcast live).

  • When viewing a post, whether your own or someone else's, the general display will be very similar to a DW post. There will be the main body with any text/audio/video content, followed by a feed of comments.
    • All comments are visible and can therefore be "threadjacked" or interacted with at will.
    • Your display feed on the other hand is not visible to anyone other than you. Anyone looking at someone else's screen will see an indecipherably blurry image of what should be there.
  • You will receive notifications for messages that are sent directly to you, or to a group that you are in.
    • The crystals will blink silently to signify there's a message waiting for you for up to 5 minutes before stopping.
    • You can tap it once to dismiss the notification, or hold it down for 3 seconds to open the message.
Because they were shown pretty advanced communicators to reference, your new network function has a lot of control and versatility to it. There are no other functions beyond these main methods of communication at the moment, but there's no saying that couldn't be changed in the future if one were to ask about it. For now, you'll be able to walk around with your slightly cooler smart watches at leisure!

For this event, there will be the NPC post to launch the network and a small log for optional interaction with our guest NPC, so you'll mostly be free to do whatever you want! Anyone still awake in the same after-midnight hours will hear the same loud crunching sound seemingly moving away from the city, and then there will be silence once again.

One mysterious thing of note for anyone paying attention, however: after today, the dragon hole seems to have completely vanished. The underbrush in the area is still smoldering, and the jagged chunks of rock protruding from the earth are still there, but space where the hole was seems to have returned to smooth, undisturbed earth that the wildlife is already eagerly reclaiming. From this point onward, no one will be able to access the underground caverns. If you want to drop your character down into that nightmare, now is your chance. :)

UPDATE: Because I forgot to add this at first: please set up an IC contact post in your character's journal as part of this event! It can be coded in any way you'd like, and comments on these posts are valid for AC. This is not an optional mechanic - all Wanderers' bracelets are automatically connected to the network, which includes a means for contacting individuals directly - but you don't have to actually use it if you don't want to. Let us know if you have any questions, suggestions for updates to the network, or anything else!

july events summary.
july 5/6: third time's a charm
  • (optional) Some Wanderers witness the arrival and consequent death of our new characters late in the evening of July 5.
  • In the morning on July 6, everyone is invited to a very casual not at all awkward lunch at the castle.

july 17: from the ground up
  • In the after-midnight hours of July 17, anyone that's still awake will hear the loud, distant crashing of stone before silence.
  • In the morning, the bracelets will brightly glow simultaneously for one second before dimming.
  • Almost immediately afterwards, a small display will project over the crystal of one bracelet, broadcasting the NPCs' first post to the network.
  • After this post goes up, you will be free to post to the network yourselves at any time!
  • In the after-midnight hours once again, you might hear the same loud crunching moving away from the city before silence returns.
  • After today, you will no longer be able to access the dragon hole.

And that's it for July! There are a few things to consider, but they're hopefully open enough that you can engage with them at your own leisure. We'll have one main event for August that will be tied in with our intro log, on the projected condition that we will be hosting applications. We'll make an official announcement once the mod team has come to a decision on what timeframe works for us.

As a reminder, NPC applications are open, and we will be accepting applications until all three roles have been filled. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me directly on discord at varooooom#4169! Let us know if you have any questions/comments/concerns/dirty jokes in the comments section below! Thanks, everyone!

Hello mods.

I imagine this request is probably impossible because the thing is dead without electricity but...Assuming he talked to the gods, would there be any way for them to copy all the music files from Peter's Zune and add them to the bracelet/network?

He uses music as emotional crutch and it's kinda dying a little in the inside without it :(
momsboy: (Bloody and bruised)

[personal profile] momsboy 2019-07-09 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, that's s cool. He's still a bit wary of the Gods and anything involved his memories is a touchy subject. While he would love the music he will also need to be sure they won't try to brainwash him or anything (sorry Gods).

I'll hit the player plot thread once he ic-ly trust them a little more then, I feel bad for bothering you all so much. Thanks mods!
momsboy: (Eyyyy....I forgot you where here)

[personal profile] momsboy 2019-07-09 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, that does make me feel better! My poor muse had a bad run with god-like entities way too often, even if he likes the ones in Asgard.

I'll hit the player plot this week then, once RL stuff calms a little. Maybe that way Peter can talk to some of the gods during this next event or so, ask if it's possible to make the Zune work and once he learns it requires getting into his memories work from there.

Thank you again!

Aww haha...I'm sure the first option won't be too hard to accomplish <3
mindseer: Commissoned, please ask before using (White Eye (Smug))

So, Terezi's typing quirk is "Opt In," which makes this a bit on the moot side (because god it's awful.). however, she's going to care about it oh soo much. Is it possible to type using alternate colors like her awful awful teal? Or are texts only in black and white?
mindseer: Source Needed (PM please if you know) (White-Eye (Grin))

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-07-10 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
That is absolutely perfect. She'll be so annoyed at first. I love it.

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-07-10 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, ooh, could she maybe not figure it out initially and make an angry public post all about it that one of the gods notices? Because her railing in gibberish l33t speak sounds like a terrible but fun way to do this.

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-07-10 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Outstanding, love it. I'll include a note of "Opt In" if people want to see her l33t speak after the intro post. If they don't request it, she'll shift to normal text for everyone's eyes' sake collectively.

It'll be hilariously awful.
